Civil Lawsuits
It is important to be aware of the differences between a civil lawsuit and a criminal case. “A civil lawsuit is a lawsuit based on non-criminal statutes, such as disputes involving accidents or contracts. Civil suits typically seek to recover money damages or allow/disallow certain acts, rather than to imprison or punish a person” (“Civil Lawsuit”).

Before filing a lawsuit, make sure that (1) you have legal standing to sue, (2) you have a good case, (3) the statute of limitations has not passed, and (4) the plaintiff is capable of compensating you. It would be best to consult an attorney before proceeding.
